Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery over-wintered in this area in 1805-'06. Their primary residence was at the constructed Fort Clatsop. While here, the corps was routinely visited by the Clatsop and Chinook Indians.

Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery camped in this area in late July- early August 1804. This was the first major meeting of the Corps of Discovery and the Indian Tribes- the first "Council", where speaches were made, goods traded, friendly relations secured.

Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery camped in this area in 1805. After an arduous crossing of the Rocky Mountains, the Corps met up with the Nez Perce Indians who befriended them, fed them and guided them further down the Columbia River.

Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery camped in this area in the late Fall of 1805. Nearing the last legs of their journey west to the sea, here they continued to meet with and negotiate with the local Indian tribes who had a sophisticated trade network.

Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery camped in this area in 1804. Here the scenery was rich and wildlife plentiful, with buffaloe, deer, antelope and elk in vast herds in all directions. This was/is the homeland of the Teton Sioux.

Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery traversed central and eastern Montana in 1805. There were many many challenges involved in their travels through Montana including the Marias River conundrum, the portage around Great Falls, and the search for a pass over the Rockies.

Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery camped in this area in 1805. One hundred years later the city of Portland hosted an international fair which, among other things commemorated the epic voyage of the Corps of discover and their passage through this area.

Meriwether Lewis camped in this area in 1803 on his way to meet Capt. Clark and the remainder of the Corps of Discovery. Here Lewis passed through on the newly built keelboat that would be their major cargo vessel on the trip up the Missouri.
