Potlatch was a unique town in the history of the Pacific
Northwest. It was, in total, a company town. Every building,
including the schools, were owned by the Potlatch Lumber Company.
Men were often paid in Company script, to be used at the Company
stores, and bills owed were deducted from their accounts.
Misbehavior at school led to a visit by a father to a boss's office.
However, almost everyone thought highly of the life in the town and
of the Company. |
