In downtown St. Charles you can wander through several of the
buildings that would have been familiar to Lewis and Clark. While
not all the structures remain, the community has also reconstructed
structures similar to that period of history. Many are now shops or
eating establishments, along with a few still used as residences.
Even though our school district does not encompass the city of St.
Charles we are located within the St. Charles County. A few years
prior to Lewis and Clark visiting this area, Francis Howell and his
family moved and settled here. While there are no records indicating
a meeting, it is possible since he was an influential figure in the
St. Charles area. Daniel Boone was also a member of the area
community. His home and property are located a few miles southwest
of the city of St. Charles and are open to the public for
tours. |
