General Information & What to Bring to the Summer 2004 Workshop.

This document covers a variety of issues, from travel to and from the workshop, to lodging and meals, and what to bring in order to ensure your comfort and full participation in the workshop activities.

This year the workshop has been streamlined as much as possible to assure ample opportunities for learning, exploring and collegiality.

About Travel:
The allowances for travel are similar to those agreed upon for previous workshops. Those of you who intend to drive your own vehicles to and from St. Louis will need to get prior approval from Bob K. (contact 
Louise or call 24Hr. Ph: 208-310-9659). Please do this ASAP.  If you are choosing to drive, the reimbursement portion allowed will be the amount allowed as if you were to fly.  Rental cars and/or parking (for one week) will be covered by the grant. Please remember that the assigned driver must pay for the car rental and insurance. If your disrict knows now who will be the assigned driver, plase le Louise know in order to formalize our reservations.Travel requisition forms are available on this website. Please use this to claim your expenses.

To make flight arrangements, please contact, via e-mail, Bailey or Jill  at Global Travel on Monday's through Thursday's between 8:00am and 3:00pm Pacific Time or call the toll free telephone number (800) 227-3165. Bailey and Jill have a list of Rediscovery travelers.

About Lodging:
We will be staying at the Millennium Hotel St. Louis. Rooms will be assigned by March 15th, 2004 unless we hear from you by March 12th that you are bringing a spose/guest. Room confirmation numbers will be sent individually at a later date.

About PerDiem:
On Monday, July 12, 2004 everyone who is to receive per diem will receive a check in the amount of $240.00, plus $30.00 for travel incidentals. (Breakfast: $15.00, Lunch: $15.00 & Dinner: $20.00) for the following applicable dates and times:

About What to Bring:
The things that you need to remember to bring with you to the summer workshop are: Cameras, GPS Units, laptops (with project software loaded), power strips, wireless ethernet cards if you have one, and tripods.

Come prepared for some humid weather. Temperatures are usually in the mid 80's to low 90's, but it can get muggy. Check the St. Louis monlthly "climate averages ".

This summer should prove to be a great deal of fun and offer great learning experiences. Please do not hesitate to contact

FOR ALL WHO ARE BRINGING LAPTOPS, please have the following software installed on your laptop before the workshop:

  • VRWorx -Photoshop Elements
  • Inspiration -Netscape Composer (available at http://www.netscape.com)
  • ArcView (if you USE or want to use ArcView)
  • a general productivity suite (like MS Office) will probably be useful
  • Bring a wireless network PC card if you have one.  If not, one will be provided.
